Kriya Yoga initiation is a turning point in the life of the
seeker. I often say, "Opportunity must not be neglected, for it may never
return." Many people have approached me for initiation in different places
and I have accepted their request if I found them to be sincere seekers. People
have even received initiation from me under the shade of a tree and in the
waiting rooms at the railway station.
At one time I was to meet a disciple who was a chief justice
at Varanasi station, coming to take me home. The train reached the station
early, and I went to the first-class waiting room. There were many passengers.
I immediately went to wash my face, and then I sat for
meditation, setting the alarm to go off after fifteen minutes when my disciple
was to come.
When I finished my meditation, two girls and a mother and
father were sitting in front of me. They said to me, "Swamiji, we have
prepared some coffee just for you. Will you have a little coffee?"
I said, "Thank you very much. Then they asked, "Swamiji, from where
have you come?"
I said, "I have come from very far away, from Puri Karar
Ashram.""From Puri, Karar Ashram? Are you Swami Hariharananda?
Now I recognize your face, I have seen your face in the photo. Will you kindly
give us initiation? As we were coming here we were thinking, if only there were
a monk of the Kriya Yoga Ashram who would give us initiation, we would be
happy."
I agreed and gave them initiation. Those four people received
initiation, and then as we finished the coffee, the disciple was a cheif justice came to take me to the
house of the principal of Banaras University, Varanasi.
INITIATION |
I asked the four people, "Where will you go? Do you have
any place to stay?"
They said, "No." So I took them with me to the
house of the principal, and they stayed there. They were so delighted and said
"Oh, this is marvelous! Not only is this the holy city of Lord Shiva, but we are with the living Shiva in Varanasi. You are the living Shiva here."
These people came from Madras to Varanasi, having read the
Autobiography of a Yogi, and they had the desire to take initiation from me in
Puri. So when they heard that I was Hariharananda, they were happy. They had
the opportunity of going to the temple every day, and they were also
meditating.
They stayed with me for several days. However, there was also
another person who had been trying to receive initiation on four or five
occasions, but she did not get the chance.
The first time she came to the ashram was on the day that the
program of initiation had been fixed, but she left the ashram without telling
me.
